Morning Report: Fall Bulb Delight

My body is still sore from the crazy bulb planting Karl and I did, now two days ago, on Saturday, October 24. I did experience a bit of buyer’s remorse after planting just 75 of the 1,675 ’round the Roses & Kitchen Garden Trellis Fence. What was I thinking? Am I getting too old for this? I did share with Karl that I’m glad we’re doing this now in our 40’s, because I’m not sure I’ll have the energy in my 50’s… I can only hope I might be in even better shape in ten years (hope + practice of course… lemon water tea, morning yoga, mediterranean diet, turmeric, fenugreek… I’ll harvest some kale and simmer it with some onions, mushrooms, and an omega 3 egg for breakfast)!
Getting back to the topic… We ended up planting a total of 1,075 on Saturday. We added 1,000 bulbs to the shady Cedar Grove and Tunnel: English Bluebells, Scilla, Muscari, and Crocus. We felt the “good type of tired” after our 9am – 4:30pm planting party. This is our KM Anniversary #3 planting.
Continuing through this fall and winter season, we’ll continue to hold an inner smile in our hearts, knowing the difference-making we’re building for others. Despite my aching back, I’m planting each bulb (600 more crocuses and snowdrops to go…) feeling like I’m hiding Easter gifts that will be opened in six to seven months, by our friends with disabilities and their weary caregivers. Sweet Justice!
Moving forward with a listening heart,
vision, inquiry, and action,
~ Mary
