Accessible Lilac Festival ~ Visiting Options

Maiden's Blush Lilac, Wheelchair-accessible at the Joe Mac Lilac Line
Maiden’s Blush Lilac, Wheelchair-accessible at the Joe Mac Lilac Line
Our Accessible Lilac Festival has hosted ten visitors since Saturday, May 13th. Twenty-four lilac plants are easily accessible:
Wheelchair-accessible: Joe Mac Lilac Line and Cottage Road (8 plants)
Walking-accessible: Secret Garden & Cottage Garden (16 plants)
Our Accessible Lilac Festival is inspired by our experiences with the Boston-area Arnold Arboretum “Lilac Sunday,” (369 plants) and the world-famous Rochester, NY Lilac Festival (1200 plants).
Our small-scale lilac fest offers big benefits to people with disabilities and care-partners, including:
1. Access parking virtually at the plantings.
2. Walk or wheel a short distance from your vehicle to view the plants.
3. Picnic at a wheelchair-accessible picnic table (MA DDS funded).
4. Use a wheelchair-accessible port-a-potty (MA DDS funded).
5. Avoid the crowds.
The lilacs will be blooming for another week or two. Visiting options include:
1. May 20th Memory Café, 10am – 12pm
2. Private Tours the week of May 22nd, Call or e-mail Mary to schedule a visit
Moving forward with a listening heart,
vision, inquiry, and action,
~ Mary
