The inspiration to plant more hyacinths in the MargFMac Front Garden Loop came from my garden journal this year and last. At this late April date, we are so eager to see color in the gardens, and the trees have not yet blossomed. The orange hyacinths made their statement the past four years as a hardy and colorful choice for our deer-may-graze-here-but-aren’t-invited yard. Starting last year, I envisioned each garden in the MargFMac Loop having chakra-inspired hyacinths to welcome the season.
On the glorious Friday afternoon, I set off to the local nursery and scored a great after-Easter deal on bulbs. I spent most of the remaining hours of the afternoon and early evening laying the plants out in the gardens and arrived at a pleasing design.
On Saturday, Karl and I planted a total of 43 hyacinths, 20 tulips, and 3 oriental poppies with our muddy and callused hands in the cold April rain. Karl then spent another couple of hours weeding and dressing the gardens with compost, then mowed the lawn for the first time this season.
We were exhausted at the end of the day and retired early.
Moving forward with a listening heart,
vision, inquiry, and action,
~ Mary
