Register Today: Father's Day Stroll & Memory Café

“Every nose may smell a rose,” one of my favorite sayings about our gardens, was inspired by my father, Joe (d.2013), doing just that on Father’s Day 2012. His last few years of life he lived with advanced heart disease and diabetes, and required 1. the use of a wheelchair, and 2. an enthusiastic pusher, Karl, to experience our 0.1 mile MargFMac Front Garden Loop. I’m so grateful he lived to see and enjoy the memorial garden we built in honor of my mom, Margaret (d.2008), holding the intention since 2009 to share it with more and more people in our community living with disabilities physical and cognitive.

Fragrant climbing roses are now in bloom along the Roses and Kitchen Garden trellis, accessible to wheelchair-users. If you or your loved one living with disability or degenerative illness, would like to smell the roses this Sunday, 11am – 2pm, please register with me by calling 978-887-4202. If you are not able to register prior to Father’s Day, you may still visit our garden if you call me ahead to ensure there is a parking space for you.

Also, happening today, 6pm – 7pm, I’m speaking at Seasons of Danvers, 44 Summer Street, Danvers, MA, to family caregivers about my dementia-care journey and self-care. Just yesterday I toured the new facility for the first time and I’m very impressed with the beauty of the place – inside and outside. The accessible outdoor space they offer memory-care residents is one of the best I’ve seen in the Greater Boston region.
