One Body, One Heart: How to Claim Your “Me Moment”

One Body, One Heart

The Practice of the “Me Moment”

A Caregiver’s Guide to Sustainable Well-being

The Fundamental Truth

You have one body: one heart. You alone have the power to give yourself permission to take a breather and compassionately care for yourself.

1. Compassionate Self-Check

Respite begins within. Use these affirmations to honor your own health:

  • “I am enough.” I deserve my own attention and care.
  • “I know my limits.” I am aware of my energy today, and I honor it.
  • “I am my own best friend.” I can be my own healer and wisdom teacher.
  • “By serving my needs first…” I am better able to be a compassionate caregiver for others.
  • “I affirm the completeness of my life…” Serving my needs first honors my life as a sacred presence.

2. Positive Family-Talk

Communicating your need for a “Me Moment” is vital for long-term care:

“Honey, give me a few minutes. I need a ‘Me Moment’—some time alone to recharge. I’ll be back in just a bit”.

By naming this moment, you set a healthy boundary for both yourself and your loved one.
