Garden Guru Job Description
Timeframe:
We will accept applications through September 12.
We will begin interviews September 15.
More about this job:
Since 2010, we’ve been creating wheelchair-accessible gardens and trails, managing all aspects of the landscape design, build, and maintenance ourselves, and with the help of dedicated volunteers since 2019. Our seasonal Thursday morning volunteer group became year-round in 2022. This year, 2025, with developing an Arboretum, a Tuesday morning volunteer group was added in June. The volunteers range in age from 14 to 80s. Teen volunteers are usually high-schoolers needing hours to graduate. Young adult volunteers are usually fulfilling college internship requirements. Retirees make up our 3rd group of regular volunteers. A 4th group is sometimes day programs serving people with special needs such as Autism, Down Syndrome, or another form of Intellectual Disability or Developmental Disability. Most all Garden Crew volunteers find the garden work therapeutic and rewarding. Mary has been the program manager directing the work of garden volunteers and communicating with third parties such as day programs, and John Coulon has served as Thursday morning Volunteer Garden Captain, able to guide and companion volunteer activities.
Ideal candidates for this job:
Passionate about our mission to provide support throughout the long-term care journey.
Committed to making a meaningful difference alongside a dedicated team.
Emotionally intelligent and bring a thoughtful, steady presence to their work.
