Morning Report: Fall Cleanup 2015

Karl and Miss Honey, with Peony Trees
Karl and Miss Honey, with Peony Trees
This past weekend Karl cleaned up the Peony Trees (removed their leaves to protect the trees from potential ice damage), cut down the Raspberry Patch canes, and removed spent plants to the compost. Together, we harvested the cranberry beans, originally grown by the natives here in New England… a great source of protein, a dry-food not requiring refrigeration… we think we harvested about four pounds. Over the next few weeks we’ll dry the beans indoors in a sunny south-facing window, before placing them into a dry-storage container. Sometime in January or February, we’ll return to these beans and use them in a warming winter chili.
We remember today the Veterans who have fought for our freedom.
We pray for the souls of those who’ve passed on.
We pray for the healing of wounded warriors.
We pray for peace and love in military homes.
We pray for military spouses and families.
Moving forward with a listening heart,
vision, inquiry, and action,
~ Mary
