Morning Report: Backwoods Portal Opened!

Backwoods Portal Opened!
Backwoods Portal Opened!
Karl and I worked this past weekend to open up a view of the Lily Pond, from the Fairy Garden, just to the right of our kitchen porch. We enjoy afternoon breaks during these hot days under this Juniper tree. It provides cooling shade from the western sun that bakes the back of the home. The plan is to weed the woods to eventually free the established carpet of woodland Vinca, Pachysandra, and Ferns from their captors: Virginia Creeper, Bittersweet, Poison Ivy, and lots of little Crabapple trees. Some blackberries we’ll keep along the woodland trails, and we’ll also keep the wild roses.
With gloves, Karl yanked the prickly blackberry canes, Virginia Creeper, goldenrod, and small trees from the hillside and into the wheelbarrow, left to us by the former owners, Margie and Rick (we’ve made good use of it these past seven years!). I wheeled it slowly down hill, at capacity, towards a new burn pile location we’re creating in the woods, near a so-far untouched wilderness patch. We began to build the winter burn pile… this fall, we’ll have a lot more to add to it.
Yesterday, we mailed in our Spring 2016 bulb order and expect to receive the bulbs for planting in October or November. These will be planted along the wheelchair-accessible MargFMac Front Garden Loop, and will complement the bulbs we planted last Fall 2014, that gave us, our friends with disabilities, and their care partners, such a spectacular 2015 spring show.
For readers North of Boston, please share with unpaid family caregivers about the 3-hour holistic health retreat I’m offering at Rolling Ridge in North Andover on September 17 – the early registration deadline is Saturday, September 5. Learn more >
Moving forward with a listening heart,
vision, inquiry, and action,
