Love ’round the LoopCentral New York has offered great respite breaks for me as I’ve been clearing out my family home this summer. A difficult and at times scary task (I am reading now The Places that Scare You by Pema Chodron), I thank God for art and music festivals! I met Liz and Rich Micho of Lakeside Stained Glass Studio, Marietta, NY at the Syracuse Arts & Crafts Festival on July 26. The heart-shaped stained glass garden ornament (photographed above) caught my eye as I drove by the fair… I’d never seen anything like it and it sparked my heart’s interest (handcrafted stained glass art was often a gift given to me by my mom, Margaret). After parking and meandering through the many art & craft vendors, I found their tent and enjoyed their many stained glass garden art creations. I could envision these beautiful decorations enhancing the experience of our guests as they walk and wheel along the 0.1 mile MargFMac Front Garden Loop.
I found and purchased a collection of four abstract and four realist pieces. The realist pieces include the heart pictured above, a sunflower, a sun, and a celtic knot. Karl and I have planted these in the Koi Pond Garden, Fruit and Veggie Garden, Ornamental Tree and Shrub Garden, and Rainbow Garden. The abstract pieces are planted as a collection between the Raspberry Patch and Cedar Grove. The new stained glass art adds a lot to the garden experience – we’re enjoying it a lot. I love to have this handcrafted art from my Central New York home area (The Lakeside Stained Glass Studio is on Otisco Lake – a New York Finger Lake) in our North of Boston garden. It is a beautiful representation and integration of my parent’s love present with us and shared through us.
Moving forward with a listening heart,
vision, inquiry, and action,
~ Mary
