After FTD: 4 Years

The impact of FTD and many other long-term care experiences is felt long-after the death of a loved one. I share our story because it is part of our own healing journey, and it serves as a validating and encouraging support for others who are years beyond a family long-term care experience.
Four years after FTD blew up our family life…
Our family
– came together, many for the first time since my mother’s death in 2008, to celebrate our marriage.
– some family relationships are reconnecting at safe levels of socialization.
We, as a couple
– got married (it took us four years of conscious and unconscious healing, recovery, and renewal work to be emotionally ready for this event).
– achieved a livable level of settled home, with the household items from our 2009 move to Topsfield mostly unpacked and in use (many boxes remain in our basement unopened).
– practice loving, listening, laughing, forgiving, with enduring commitment despite our human frailness.
– work together towards common goals we are realizing.
Me, a daughter, life-partner, wounded healer
– have become a serious student of my personal self-care, seeing my health and wellness as priority #1, following my doable self-care plan that includes daily nutrition and fitness, and is flexible for my changing life.
– continue to simplify my personal space
– continue to journey with and support my father, who lives with heart disease and diabetes.
– work as a wounded healer, guide, teacher, care consultant, and experience designer for others impacted by long-term illness and disability.
Moving forward with a listening heart,
vision, inquiry, and action,
~ Mary
