OTA Graduate Students from NSCC Walk & WheelMary met Rhianna and Amanda, two graduate students, at the accessible gardens parking area, Tuesday, 10/1/24, 9am – 10am. They are studying how to be Occupational Therapy Assistants, at North Shore Community College, in Danvers, MA. The class teacher equipped the students with mobility assistive devices such as cane, walker, or wheelchair, to better understand and have some experience with the equipment – in the community! Each student chose a device and lived with it for the one hour experience. Mary toured them around the Front Garden, Secret Garden, and Cottage Garden. She shared the origin story about the garden’s development, as well as some of her own surviving dementia-caregiving story, and why respite is a requirement for care-partners. Mary invited the students to share how they felt a calling to the OTA profession, and inquired about the populations they might want to serve in the future.
