Built on Science, Driven by Heart
Why Rest-Stop-Ranch exists—and how we’re changing the journey of caregiving.

The “Why” Behind the Woods
When we first envisioned Rest-Stop-Ranch, it wasn’t just about “gardening.” It was born from a personal understanding of a difficult truth: caregiving is one of the most demanding roles a human being can take on.
Clinical research confirms what many of us feel in our bones. Studies show that family members caring for loved ones with dementia face extreme challenges that impact their own psychiatric and physical health. The “burnout” we talk about isn’t just a feeling—it’s a clinical reality. We realized that for caregivers and those living with disabilities, the world often becomes smaller, more isolated, and full of physical barriers.
“We didn’t just want to build a garden; we wanted to build a solution. A place where the ‘Science of Sanctuary’ meets the reality of daily life.”
What We Are Doing Together
Every program at the Ranch is designed to tackle a specific barrier identified by research. We aren’t just planting seeds; we are cultivating resilience through:
- ♿ Radical Accessibility:
Studies show physical obstacles are the #1 reason people with disabilities avoid nature. That’s why our 0.5 miles of wheelchair-accessible trails exist—to ensure nature is a right, not a privilege. - ☕ Connection Over Isolation:
Our Memory Cafés aren’t just social hours; they are “safe havens” proven to reduce the stigma of dementia and provide the psychosocial support caregivers desperately need. - 🌿 Therapeutic Horticulture:
We use clinical evidence that nature-based interaction improves mood and communication to create programs that offer more than just a view—they offer active healing.

Join the Mission
Our journey is only possible because of this community. Whether you need a place to rest or you want to give back, there are three ways you can get involved:
Do you know a caregiver who is struggling? Or a family looking for an accessible outdoor escape? Please forward this email to them. Sanctuary is better when shared.
Built on Evidence. Rooted in Love.
